Bio Distortion
The relation of language as it is used to describe the mechanisms of hearing and cognition is remarkably similar to that which infuses the technical sphere of radio. When a sound is transmitted through space, either audibly or electronically, the systems of reception react in both the biological auditory system as well as through essential radio components (resistor, capacitor, receiver).
Through the fusion of radio technology, physiological diagrams, and models from the Mütter collection, bio-distortion brings together the biological and technological as they relate to cognition and the auditory system.
The sound, transmitted locally throughout the Mütter Museum, references the tones associated with medical hearing tests. It invisibly blankets the space, hovering only to be received by radio tuned to the specific broadcast frequency (88.1Mhz). The radio receiver is the definitive point where the biological connects to the technological.
